Methodology & corrections

Both News is a news-reading and media-analysis project built by Dawson. It compares political framing and publishes “Just the Facts”: AI-written accounts with links to the reporting behind them.

How are sources selected?

For a headline, we search our collected news feeds for coverage of the same event. An AI matching step filters the candidates. A fact version requires at least three reports and at least two outlet-lean groups, with up to eight sources. These groups describe outlets, not the truth of a particular claim.

How is a fact version written?

AI reads the selected articles, or feed summaries when the full text is unavailable, and drafts a single account. It is instructed to remove loaded wording, attribute claims and describe disagreements and uncertainty. Numbered references connect paragraphs to sources. Summary-only sources are marked in the source list.

What do the bias scores mean?

Political lean and reporting balance are separate estimates. They describe framing, language and sourcing in an article. A centered score does not establish accuracy, and a partisan source can report accurate facts. The source list and the analysis explain what was considered.

What are the limitations?

Both News does not independently verify every claim or provide original eyewitness reporting. AI can misunderstand a source, miss context or make translation errors; different outlets can repeat the same mistaken account. Not every story includes all three political perspectives. The title “Just the Facts” describes the writing approach, not a guarantee that every statement is correct.

How can I report an error?

Use the correction form and include the article URL, the sentence you question and a supporting source. The article page links directly to this form. Publication and update timestamps describe the page record; an update may include a translation and does not necessarily mean the underlying event changed.
